The decision between soft and hard lenses is influenced by different facts: Comfort, hygiene, cost and the specific situation / activity. Toric or bifocal lenses are nothing to choose between. These special kinds of lenses have been designed for medical reasons: to enable people with astigmatism or presbyopia to wear contacts.
Toric Lenses – Toric Lenses are especially designed to be used with astigmatism. Slightly cylindrical, these lenses have two powers each, one for myopia / hyperopia, one for the astigmatism. They can be soft or hard.
Astigmatism: The cornea has an irregular curvature. This results in a blurred vision.
Bifocal Lenses – Like Toric Lenses, these lenses have two powers. They are especially designed for use with presbyopia. They can be soft or hard.
Presbyiopia: As a result of the aging process, the eye loses ita ability to change its focus to close distances. This results in blurred vision at short distances.
